Choir Society Martinu of Třinec

History

The history of PSM began in 1955. At the time it’s been known under a different name “Soubor pracujících Třineckých železáren” and its founder was Mr. Jindřich Sedlák. Ten years later it was renamed to “The Choir Society Martinů” and kept that name ever since. For almost 50 years, the Choir has been led by Mr. Václav Štývar and under his leadership it acquired many home and international awards.

In 2001 conductress Daniela Slawinska took over the leadership over PSM. She successfully led the Choir up until 2005.

After she left, a young graduate from Janacek Academy in Ostrava, University of Ostrava and University of Music Arts in Bratislava, Michal Zátopek, took over the conductor role. Under his leadership PSM received many awards from both home-based and international competitions. In 2006, shortly after he started, PSM produced their first ever CD, which was recorded in “Český rozhlas Ostrava”.

Vocal coach role in PSM belongs to Dr. Marta Reichelová She graduated from Janacek University in Ostrava and finished her post-grad at Janacek University in Brno. She’s a laureate in many international competitions and currently a regular host in National Theatre in Brno. Marta also cooperates with National Theatre in Prague, Moravian-Silesian National Theatre and leading czech orchestras. More information about Marta’s life and achievements can be found on her website.

The Choir’s accompanists are Daniela Vondráčková, Pavel Duda and Pavla Černeková.

In recent years, PSM can also be proud of its collaboration with many leading artists and ensembles, including pianist, composer and pedagogue Irena Szurmanová or the Třinec Chamber Orchestra.

The Choir Society Martinů has started a beautiful tradition of choral art. Its main mission is to continue this long tradition within and outside of the region and, above all, to bring joy and artistic experience to people.
